The Force Awakens - Rey by Durnesque
The Force Awakens - Rey

While I certainly don't look much like her and I wasn't feeling particularly good while taking these photos, I am still super pleased with the results of my Rey photoshoot!

I knew I had to get photos before leaving the Arizona desert and Sean was good enough to play photographer since I missed my chance with a professional. You can see more of these photos on my Tumblr or Facebook pages!

Rey Costume - Star Wars by Durnesque
Rey Costume - Star Wars
My finished Rey costume for the Star Wars premiere! Custom dye job on shirt, sashing, pants, arm wraps, belt, and bracer (so... every piece, lol). The belt and bracer are both real leather. I wish the distressing/dye job had photographed better, but I'm quite happy with how it looks in person! And I cannot WAIT to wear it to the movie!

You can see more photos on my facebook or  tumblr. On tumblr, please only reblog from me!

(P.S. This costume will be up for sale after the premiere - us size 4-6).
Flynn Rider Vest by Durnesque
Flynn Rider Vest
Quick commission for a friend hitting up Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party next week. Bummed I could not find the right color suede or the right type of fasteners, but think my substitutes work pretty well. The fabric is a nice denim. Design is somewhere between the movie and the park - mostly because I prefer the movie's squared collar, rather than the sloped park one.

Logo for Princesses with a Purpose by Durnesque
Logo for Princesses with a Purpose
For the past few years I've been working with the lovely charity group: Princesses with a Purpose. A group that does paid events in order to sponsor charity character visits for different events and hospitals.

This week a project long in the works came to fruition as I finally had time to craft a logo for the group! It's the first logo work I've done in quite a while, and I'm very pleased with the results! The font took the LONGEST time as I spent hours for several days trying to find the perfect font and then finally gave up and crafted my own using another as the base/outline.

You can see this on my facebook page or tumblr as well.

Zero to Hero by Durnesque
Zero to Hero
This is one of my favorite shots from DragonCon this year! It was an absolute joy running around with my husband and our friend - absolutely everybody was in character! Big Herc was giving out "hero-fives" to everybody dressed as a hero, Phil was shouting rules to both Big and Little Herc, who were both jogging everywhere we went, and I believe I held up my end with sass and saunter.

You can see more of my costume here on DeviantArt or on my costuming facebook page. More photos of the group are also on my cosplay page and Tumblr.

Big Herc: (my husband!) Sean Michael Moreno - made his own armor.
Meg: (me!) Durnesque Sarah Durnesque - made my costume and styled my and Big Herc's wigs.
Little Herc: Kalliste Cosplay - made her costume and her husbands and styled her wig.
Phil: Michael Stewart of Merely Players.

Summer in Review

Wed Sep 3, 2014, 6:13 PM
Dear Friends, Watchers, and Visitors;

Thank you all, as always, SO MUCH! Over the summer my page surpassed 50,000 views - which is rather overwhelming. I was, as expected, insanely busy this summer, so here's a run down of what projects came to fruition and which did not.

:bulletblack: I worked through my commissions wait list (FINALLY!) and stacked up a new one for fall.
:bulletblack: Went to a wedding and Disney 3 times!!! Once with my best friend and twice with my boyfriend and his family.
:bulletblack: Started my Princess project: Princess tee shirts! You can see some completed in my gallery and the full plan here
:bulletblack: I made my own cosplays for the FIRST time and premiered them at the infamous DashCon as well as DragonCon. Cosplays completed were: Street Wonder Woman and Belle's Ballgown.
:bulletblack: I also made cosplays for my boyfriend, Sean M Moreno: Gaston and Beauty's Prince/Prince Adam
:bulletblack: Made my own pirating garb for shenanigans with the aforementioned boyfriend  aka Captain Francis Drake
:bulletblack: I wrote a Renaissance Festival show with my girlfriends and we signed a multi-year contract to perform at the Carolina Renaissance Festival! You can see our facebook page about "The Angels" here.

Just about the only thing I did not get around to on my summer itinerary was more hair tutorials... sadly I had way less time on my hands than expected. Maybe more will appear this fall.

Here are some of the pieces I made this summer:
